Barcelona things to doWe drive down to Saint Sadurni d’Anoia, the Cava Capital, via Gelida, to visit some of the biggest underground wine cellars in Europe.  Situated in the Penedes wine-growing region, Sant Sadurni d’Anoia boasts one of the widest range of grape varieties of any wine-growing region in the world. In the late 19th-century the region received a major boost when French vineyards became stricken with blight and now Cava is a major rival to French champagne. The main difference between Cava and champagne is simply the region in which they are produced and Cava boasts a quality that can match the best in the world. The tour will continue with a visit to a winery where it will be demonstrate exactly how the famous sparkling wine is produced, from the first pressing of the grapes to the second fermentation, followed by a tour of the vast expanse of cellars. This will of course be accompanied by a chance to sample some Cava, and to discover why it has become internationally famous. The tour then returns to Barcelona either by train with our guide or by optional private coach
